An implant replaces the root of a missing tooth. A crown is fitted on top — zirconia or all-ceramic. Unlike a bridge, an implant does not require grinding down the neighbouring teeth.
A CT scan is taken before surgery: it shows the volume and density of bone. If there is not enough bone, a sinus lift or bone graft may be needed as a separate procedure.
